The Nester is having a lamp party! Go check out all the great lamp ideas!
I have made one lamp in my entire life. And I loved it! I still have it, and will probably be using it again soon when we redecorate my youngest son's room. Before we had kids, we had two guest bedrooms, and one of them was nautical. It even had a lobster trap as a bedside table! And on that "table" sat my lighthouse lamp that I made all by myself with a wooden lighthouse from the clearance aisle at TJ Maxx, a lamp kit, a lampshade and harp, and a screwdriver. This is the only picture I could find of my creation, but I think it shows up pretty well.

So, my original post ended here, but I was inspired by other lamp posts, and I decided to add some before & after pics of some of the lights in my house. Can we say brass? ugh!

This is the kitchen light we inherited when we purchased the house. Bad picture, but you get the idea!

We changed the light to this one just after moving in seven years ago. We kept that light until last month, when we changed it to this one.
When we changed the light this time, we also swagged it. We never liked where the light was before. It made the table stick out too far into the walkway.
We recently added a new black ceiling fan in the kitchen over the island, and the new light matches it better.
Now, on to the dining room. Brass at its "finest!"

When we moved in, we used the dining room as an office, so we put up this light.

Once we made it into a real dining room, we wanted a lower, more chandelier-type light. It also had to be silver to match the faux tin tile ceiling. It was hard to find a silver light that we really liked, but we found this fancy (but not too fancy) light at Home Depot.
And the light from the "office" found its way into our entryway.
I don't have a picture of the original entryway light, but I think I only have to say three words to give you an idea of what it looked like: brass, hexagon-shaped & UGLY!
That's all, folks! Now go enjoy all those beautiful lamps and lights at Nesting Place!
