Jacob's 2nd Birthday, January 2006

Jacob's second birthday was my first all-out, big-time kids party, and it was a lot of work, but so much fun! We always have a large number of adults at our parties as well, so we serve food that everyone will enjoy. I personally like going to kids' parties where I can have a good time, too! Since Jacob still wasn't really sure about what was going on, John and I picked a theme. He was an adorable cowboy for his first Halloween, and he LOVED his rocking horse, so a theme was born--a western cowboy party! I will admit that I obsessed over just about every detail! The colors were red, denim blue and brown. We had bandana print, cow print, mini haybales as balloon weights, star badge sugar cookies, and red and white checkered tablecloths. The treat bags had a bandana, a harmonica, horses, stickers and candy. And every child got a cowboy hat, while each family took home a CD with cowboy songs (Rhinestone Cowboy, Where Have All the Cowboys Gone, Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys, etc.) I loved Jacob's cake and our table supplies. We served chili, sausage balls, BBQ sandwiches, macaroni & cheese, chicken nuggets and appetizers. Even though January birthday parties are difficult, we managed to have a great day!
