Easy, Cheap & Cute Bridal Shower Invitation

My MIL is hosting a bridal shower for her friend's daughter. She asked me if I could make an invitation. It's been a while since I've made anything but invitations for the kiddos, so I thought it would be fun to design something different. The bride's main color is watermelon, with spring green and hydranga purple as accents. I decided to go with the watermelon and green. I have loved all the pink and green parties I have seen online lately. I originally had in mind to use pink and green toile paper, but I found this fun polka dot paper that was much heavier, thus eliminating the extra step of gluing the background paper to a heavier cardstock to make the invitation sturdy. She needed 30 invitations, and I was able to make them using 10 sheets of the polka dot scrapbook paper and 4 yards of watermelon satin ribbon. I only spent $10 (including envelopes!), and I think it turned out pretty cute. I created the text using Word, and my inspiration for the card's long shape came from a hoedown party invitation that I saw in Country Living (see below). Armed with my trusty small rectangle punch, adding the ribbon was easy. I just punched two holes close together (see below). Then pulled the ribbon evenly through the two holes on the top side, then doubled it back through the holes on the back. Voile!

I love my rectangle punch!
